Julie of Truequest Dog Training visited our home a few days after our English Springer Spaniel pup came to us in November 2021. Her two-hour training session was thorough, information and sympathetically delivered. The points covered were emailed in detail to us the following week and the information remains our go-to manual. We has an e-mail follow-up with Julie a month later and again received excellent and comprehensive answers to our questions.

Julie is not only a wonderful trainer but great to work with. Recommended!

I booked an Intensive one off training session with Julie and it was a fantastic experience. I learnt so much on the day and have been able to take this knowledge and use it in everyday life and training with my 18m Vizsla. Julie is extremely knowledgeable and tailors her advice to the specific owner and dogs needs. Having post session access to Julie via email was very valuable to clarify any points. I would thoroughly recommend her services!

We had two sessions with Julie to help with our Labrador puppy The sessions were extremely useful and have helped us transform his behaviour. We now have lots of confidence to walk with him off the lead and have greater control while walking him on the lead. He now responds well to commands. Julie showed us straight away the ability to control him at a young age in all sorts of situations. We enjoyed the sessions and, most importantly, so did he. We thoroughly recommend Julie

Had a lovely training session with Julie who gave me some great tips to calm down my 1 year old Labradoodle when she sees other people indoors and when we are out on walks. Would definitely recommend Julie, a lovely lady full of wonderful knowledg

Met Julie after trying a couple of other behaviourists/trainers to get help with our cocker spaniel Colin and his recall which at 10 months old had disappeared! Suddenly our beautiful countryside was far more interesting than anything I could do (had tried toys, all the foods you can imagine, calling, noises, rolling around on the floor!). Felt like I was a failing dog owner as walks were just chaos. Went to Julie due to her experience with gun dog breeds and it was so worth it! In comparison to the other trainers she just seemed to inherently understand the breed and his drive, was non judgemental and just super lovely. Her approach made sense, was simple and easy to follow. I really enjoyed our 121 session (where she came to my home and we went on a walk together) and her answers to my follow up questions have been really detailed and clear. It’ll take some work on my part but I feel like I know what I’m doing and i really trust Julie and her advice. Would highly recommend to anyone (I have already done so to some friends), I know where I’ll be going if I need help in the future.

“Julie has helped us with all of our Spaniels over a number of years and it has always been great. Our current Spaniel is a challenge and Julie is helping us to work on his ‘running off’ behaviour – he is already responding to his training. We will be needing her again! I would not hesitate to recommend Julie to other dog owners”

I was having a few training issues with my puppy, I had previously attended puppy training classes however there were some factors which were not covered in as much detail as I had hoped and therefore looked into further one to one training for Hattie. She is a Jack Russell cross Parson Terrier cross Border Collie so has a wide mixture of characteristics and traits. A work colleague recommended Julie to me and I got into contact with her that night. I didn’t really know what to expect when she came over, however when she met Hattie she showed me how easy it is to correct her behaviour in such a short period of time. We took Hattie for a walk and she taught me many techniques and changes I can make myself to teach Hattie. It was so insightful and results were incredible. I only had one, one hour one to one session and Hattie is like a completely different dog when out walking. Julie had great knowledge and knew exactly what she was doing, whilst out walking I remembered a problem we were having at home with Hattie trying to escape out the door when it is held open. Although my one hour was up Julie had no issues coming back to the house and showing us further techniques we could use to stop Hattie from doing this. It was money well spent, and if I require any further help with Hattie I will contact Julie straight away.

I have been training with Julie for a year with my flat coat puppy. We have never done any gun dogs work before and I quickly became addicted! Julie knows exactly what I and my dog are capable of and pushes us to achieve. I was persuaded to do my Gun dog Working Certificate with Gideon when he was only 16 months old which I was very dubious about. But with Julie’s training and encouragement we passed! Classes are always relaxed and fun for both dog and handlers and with mixed abilities, but Julie always works out the dogs weaknesses and tells you what you need to work on. We have taken part in a Working Test and hope to do more in the future. I can highly recommend Julie’s classes even if you are a complete novice as she has an infinite patience with the dogs but more importantly she has patience with the handlers!

I have been training with Julie for the last 3 years, with my Golden & Flat Coated Retrievers. Her classes are fun, relaxed & aimed at all abilities. Julie knows just how far to push me & my dogs which has enabled me to compete in some working tests & to successfully do a Show Gun Dog Working Certificate with my Golden Retriever. In the group lessons or 1-2-1’s Julie trains to whatever you would like to achieve, be it picking up, working tests, field trials or just those who like to learn & watch their dogs work.

What a lot I had to learn when I took on Fred, my Springer!  I have had dogs all my life (two boxers, a Labrador X collie, and an assortment of assortments…) but I needed an expert to teach me first how to understand and second how to handle this combination of energy, intelligence and anxiety. Not just any expert either, but one with the insight, who could tailor clear and consistent training to both dog and owner.  Julie’s patience and commitment to both Fred and me has turned my nice dog into a good dog, who is confident, happy, keen to please, and a great pleasure to have around. I would recommend her whole-heartedly to anyone who is looking for a trainer – and if you are lucky enough to have a spaniel, her spaniel classes are great fun as well as a great learning experience!

I cannot recommend Julie enough as a trainer, I first took Maia my 2 year old Golden Retriever to Julies Monday morning Gundog Training Class in November 2011 hoping that I could get Maia and myself up to a good enough standard to compete in Working Tests and hopefully be able to take her on a shoot to do some picking up.
Fourteen months on Maia has competed in Working Tests with success and has now been  awarded The Kennel Clubs ‘Working Gundog Certificate’ on only her second ever shoot.
Without Julies help and guidance we would never have got to this standard.
Julies training methods are fantastic and she tailors the training to suit your dog as all dogs are different and certain dogs will need a different approach.
Julies classes are fun and she will help with problems you have with your dog in a very clam and patient manor. It has also been lovely to see other dogs improve that have been coming to classes on a Monday morning.
Maia and I cant thank Julie enough as the training has given us the confidence to progress forward and we get a real sense of achievement whilst out competing or in the shooting field.

I have a three year old Labrador bitch that developed behavioural problems when she was two years old. She was attacked by a dog and after that she became extremely aggressive to other dogs. I had consulted various dog behaviourists but without success and then by word of mouth Julie was highly recommended to me. Julie has been marvellous and so patient with both my dog and me (especially me!). We started out doing a couple of one to ones them progressed onto classes and thanks to Julie’s careful handling of the situation we were able to attend these without any disasters and my dog was able to interact with other dogs without any aggression. With guidance and advice from Julie I am now able to take my dogs for walks and deal with any potential confrontations that may have upset her. She will play happily with Julie’s many other dogs and with reward based training her recall is nearly perfect. I cannot thank Julie enough for her continued support. She is always available on the end of the phone and has been a complete life-saver to my dog and I. Without her perseverance I fear that I would have given up long ago and I do not like to think where my dog would be now. Julie has taught me to love and cherish my dog and cope with all situations in a positive, confident and assertive frame of mind. I would recommend anyone to contact Julie for advice on how to train a puppy/dog and can guarantee that they would not be disappointed. She totally understands dogs and the reasons for and behind all sorts of behavioural problems.
